Phoenix Centre Leader – Mrs. C. Roderick
The Phoenix Centre is a Pupil Inclusion Assessment Centre (PIAC) supporting primary-aged learners across Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. Located within Coedffranc Primary School, the Phoenix Centre offers a nurturing and specialist environment where learners are provided with opportunities to access tailored support to help them thrive.
Despite the Phoenix Centre predominantly assessing learners who experience Behavioural, Emotional, and Social Developmental (BESD) difficulties, we believe that ‘behaviour is a form of communication’, and we work closely with each learner and their mainstream (base) school to understand the reasons behind their behaviour. Whether this be a particularly learning need, social communication and interaction difficulty, speech, language, and communication difficulty etc. Through early intervention, we aim to identify individual needs and equip learners with the skills to manage their emotions, behaviours, and learning effectively.

- A personalised and nurturing curriculum
Learners typically attend the Phoenix Centre for a minimum of two terms, whilst maintaining a connection with their base school. As part of the assessment process, pupils spend at least one day per week at their base school, gradually reintegrating as their needs are met. Following assessment, most learners return to their base school with new strategies and support, or transition to long term specialist provisions if appropriate.
